Lefévre Alexandre – (absence of proof)
In 1896 the Mayor of Saint-Denis wrote a certificate to Estelle Cardinet, born Lefebvre living San-José. He gives her a statement made by Lapierre Ernest who certifies that a velocipede pedal that she had in her possession was well made by his father Alexander in 1843. This machine then passed to the San José Museum and is still exposed. Several articles have been products on this very interesting velocipede: The Whellmen (# 8, p.2 to p.10), The Cycle History (September 25-28, 2011, p.20) and The Era of bike fair in France edited by the musée VéloMoto Domazan (30), p.175 to p.179), the reader can refer to it. We have no evidence today of he authenticity of this velocipede.

Turner R.B. & Cie – manufactured by Coventry Machinist Co. in Coventry, Great Britain for market in Paris, France
Turner & Cie was founded to sell velocipedes on 1869 March 17th. Based in Paris, it had three shareholders: Rowley Benbow Turner, Antonie Cuissard (draughtsman) and M.L. Pascaud – the owner and director of the Luxembourg and Marais gymnasiums in Paris. They had their machines built by Coventry Sewing Machine Co., which became the Coventry Machinists Co. om 1869 May 10th and were offered in Paris under name VELOCIPÉDES AMÉRICAINS. The velocipedes are thus a Fraench make but manufactured in England. It is not so clear that Turner et Cie were ever manufacturers.

San Francisco ladies Velocipede Club
Photos and information from facebook page NVCC (for Velocipede - Boneshaker & Dandy - Hobby-Horse)
The owner Jerry Grulkey:„There is no badge, but experts have examined it and feel it was mfg in San Francisco, California, USA in 1868. It came out of California. When I first saw it in the early 1970's I was awe struck as all the Veloce's I'd seen were in pretty bad shape and none as fancy as this. Took several years of dreaming and thinking about it. When I finally bought it I cleaned it using conservators methods as you would in cleaning an oil painting. Took several weeks and there are some sections that have not been cleaned. I then coated it with conservators varnish that can be easily removed via mineral spirits (very low solvency). The saddle has been basted to keep intact the fringe in places. The polish on the steel spring is in amazing condition. Thanks as some have said it has some unusual designs and that's maybe why it was a unique San Francisco design. In my research years ago the maker also according to a contemporary article I read years ago they made a ladies version painted Ivory, with silver plated hardware and a blue satin saddle, crimson and blue stripping. This was the San Francisco ladies Velocipede Club who wore Turkish satin outfits too. Wish there was a photo.“
