Clément et Cie Safety Bicycle – c1893

A circa 1893 Clément et Cie diamond-frame Safety Bicycle. Painted black, the 22-inch delicately-manufactured frame is numbered 31469 and has a sloping top tube, 26-inch swept handlebars, the centre etched Clément Paris, 27 x 1 1/4-inch crescent rims with radial spoking to bronze hubs, front plunger brake operated by lever, and an inch-pitch chain. Later bell and saddle, but a 1904 bicycle tax plate is fitted to the headstock.
